Randomized Checklist Vocabulary Size Test

This test is designed for learners of English to check their vocabulary size. Knowing your vocabulary size is important as it can help you to choose readings that are of a suitable difficulty level, and it can also show you how much more vocabulary you need to learn until you reach the target size for reading (8000 word families) or for listening (6000 word families). Once you know your vocabulary size, you should input this information when you use Reading Mate.

To take the test, select the words on each page for which you know at least one meaning. At the end of the test, you will be given a score, as well as a list of the words you did not know. The test also includes some items that are not real English words; if you select these items then your result may not be reliable. The content of this test is different every time, so you can take it as many times as you wish. If you think that your first score seems too high or too low then you should take the test again to see if you get a similar score.
